Create Negative Space with Striping Tape Nail Tutorial
Hi, I’m Kirsty Meakin from Naio Nails In this tutorial I’m going to show you how to do a cool nail using striping tape, a sponging effect to create negative space. For this design I have already prepared an almond shaped acrylic nail. We’re going to have a bit of fun with some striping tape, it drives me around the bend slightly because I can never find the end.
Onto a clean nail. Leave the ends on, we’ll need them because we will take them off after. We are basically using the tape to mask out part of the nail so you can be really random with this. Press them down, make sure you have got no oil on your skin when you are doing this, make sure you have got a clean finger. Then we’re going to use a bit of sponge.
You can just cut it off a household sponge and then we want a little bit of black paint and a little bit of white, make sure they stay separate.
We are going to use one side for black. This is a really quick easy design. We are going to stipple over the nail, really random. You want some places lighter, some places darker. And then we are going to use the other side of the sponge for the white. Now for the magic bit. Pull off your tape and you have a negative design that looks really effective, it actually looks like you have taken a long time to do.
We are going to seal this with mega gloss sealer gel. This will bring out the colours, it will seal all the artwork in, it’s a really quick, simple design. It’s easy to do. Pop that into the LED lamp for one minute. To remove the little bits of speckled paint I am going to use the gel residue soak off solution. Just wazz around with that, it will just tidy it up nice. We’re going to finish with a little bit of cuticle oil as always and there’s your finished design..
